Default 1985 C4

Hi,
Does anyone know where the wire for the low coolant wire orginates from? I see the connection at the side of the radiator but cant find the wire that should be connected to it. Second.. What is the correct altenator that this car came with 120 or 140 amp. 3rd Power steering fluid is gray, leave it alone or replace it. Ill send pics of the ride soon. 4th I have two fans one behind the radiator and one infront underneath the car near the scoop Is that for the ac unit? Thanks

Tuk

Somebody must have put another later C4 radiator in your car, 85 does not have a low coolant light, at least mine doesn't. If I'm wrong someone please set me straight.
Alt is a 140 amp and all by itself for 85. Check tech tips for a how to on upgrading to a newer and better alt.
I'd change the power steering fluid, I used Valvoline's synthetic and it works great.
The fan between the radiator and the engine is the main fan and the outer one is the auxilliary.

85 does not have a low coolant sensor, you have a replacement radiator in there.

I think the alternator changed in 86, not sure what the 85 is rated at. I believe the one on my car is the original alternator though, 21 years, not bad at all!

The 85 Alt. is a 120 amp. Still have my original. No low coolant light.

My 85 only has the one fan between the radiator and engine. I also would change the power steering fluid. Acording to my FSM your 85 should have Delco Remy #17SI 7216 alternator rated 108 amps (rated hot output)

Stock alt for '85 is 108 amp.
Unless yours was built with the "high output" RPO, which was 120 amp (check Bogus' RPO faq if your not sure).

It's never a bad Idea to change fluids if your unsure as to its' condition and age.

Thanks guys, I have always been curious about that single spade lead (with no plug for it anywhere) on the right of the radiator on my '85.

Now I know!
