I am looking for a better system. I see that there are a lot of differnet ignition systems like MSD, Crane, Holly, etc. What should I be looking for? Do I need a digital system? I use my car for street use. What are the things I should be looking for?
The MSD 6A and others like it seem to be what a large majority of people use on here. I'm running a Crane Cams Fireball coil (no MSD box yet), and it has helped out my high rpm's quite a bit. Of course I'm running 8.5mm wires at the same time which helps out as well.
Unless you need a boost or timing retard the stock ignition is great! Since yours is a pre-96 you will want to replace the coil with a quality unit ASAP.
Determining what you need will be the real questions. I would ask
1) Do I need a rev limiter? (only usefull if you program out the stock one)
2) Do I need any type of timing retard (nitrous or blower)
3) Do I need a 2-step (second rev limiter to let you launch at WOT)
Those are really the main features you can look for in an ignition. I would only consider a MSD or Crane unit.
I would suggest an MSD or Crane Fireball. Most any of the after market ones are going to give you 50% more volts or so. The fireball I have advertises 70% increase.
