hey again guys! i'm looking to get a rossler auto trans for my 383 build (700r4), and i was wondering what torque converter i should get. i think the 383 will be making under 450hp and about the same torque by the time i'm done. thanks!

well, the motor isn't built yet. i was looking for something around 2300-2500 stall and that was about it. any higher, and the tires won't plant.
I would ask the 383 guys what to expect off the line and see whats working out there in regaurds to the stall. I have a 2300-2500 and it just right. The 3200 Vig I had was a animal. It wanted to bust my dana36 in half but my tranny took a **** before that happend. Dana 36 lives on!
I had a Vig 3200 in my car and it would 60' in 1.6x with drag radials... I hooked so hard I broke Spider gears several times in a Dana 44 (3.73)
Then I had a problem with it NOT locking up while driving home from the track... I had the free rebuild, & sold it with the fresh rebuild..
I decided to slow the car down by having less stall... I won several Corvette Challenge races & had $500 worth of Pro Torque gift certificates.. I got a Pro Torque 2800 , Now I 60' in 1.75 - 1.80 it slowed me down a little but its been running like a Timex for 2 years... with NO problems...
Last yr I broke the Trans & while it was out I had Pro Torque freshen up the Converter.. & its back I do run about 3-4 tenths slower than when I had the Vig but its consistent.. I have always finished in the top 6 in the NJ Corvette Challenge for the last 5 years..
I say if you are looking to save a few $$ Pro Torque is fine especially if your gonna race it only a few times a year.. Also if you get a Vig 3200 you will NEVER hook up with street tires... JMHO

With a healthy 383 he should never hook up with street tires regardless of converter.
I had a stock GM converter in my 383 and it always spun my street tires. The GM converter pulled low 1.7 60' times. I replaced the GM converter with a vigilante 3000 and it dropped my 60' times down into the 1.5's.
I can smoke my street tires in 2nd gear from a 30mph roll with the Vigilante.... I love to do this when I have a pack of Harley's behind me....they usually wave to me.....with one finger of course.
I have an ATI 2600rpm stall converter. Great for the street and highway. I don't dragrace much but I think that it would be pretty good to race with my 383 and the Dana 36 rear end. Mine was $500 delivered from Maryland.
just a dumb question. i was checking out summit and jegs, i saw the B&M holeshot 2400. how is it? has anyone had any experience with them, good or bad or otherwise? or even the tci streetfighter...

Although I have no axe to grind with B&M or TCI, they have given me horrible results. Sloppy, inefficient and broke soon after install. I use a local company that hand builds them to my spec. Similar money to the B&M/Tci stuff after I pay a core charge and tax, but quality and service is first rate. If money is tight, I would suggest you do something similar. You may have a local converter shop that will do you right. A 12 inch converter that is built right will live for a little while behind 500hp.
I just had a new 383 built and should get it back tonight. I wanted a 2000 stall minimum and the converter on mine when we took the engine out is a 2200 per the sticker on the converter. Some in here say that mine isn't stock, I'm the third owner and can't say if it was replaced. Anyway check the sticker on yours and you might already have what you want. This is the source I found and its a requote of GM info.
The torque converter has a sticker on it with a four letter code. the second character is what GM calls the "K" factor for stall speed. I had the guys at the shop look at my converter and it is a code B (2025 rpm), which is the factory high stall converter. Codes E through K ramp down from 1654 rpm to 1211 rpm.
