700R4 help needed.
Driving home, I'm pulling away from a stoplight, hear a clunk, and start smelling burning tranny fluid. Can move shifter, but tranny only works in D, wont even go in reverse.

You don't say what year it is. Had something similar happen to my 84. Several of the gears inside self destructed. Made it home, put it in park, and it was locked up after that. Shop said some of the early 700r4's had cast gears in them and were later replaced with better gears. Don't know if that is true or not, but it cost me a full tranny rebuild. Hope you have better luck......
