Anyone got any recommendations for a shifter that will fit the factory console. The shifter will need a reverse lockout. Anything made of Aluminum would be a plus also. If you have photos that would be even better.
Thanks...I am hoping someone has swapped something in that fit decent. B&M used to make something called a Quick Silver but I haven't seen one in years. There was also a Mega Shifter but I only remember seeing them in Camaro/Firebird cars.
I mounted a Camaro console 'Hammer' shifter, and initally bought a spare console cover and cut a hole similar to a manual tranny version, then bought a 3x5 rubber shifter boot and made it work. Was functional and had a pretty clean look, but I did not like the height of the handle (even the with the short one that came with the console version).
I eventually built a small metal box 3x9x2 with a flange around the top edge, cut a 3x9 hole in the tunnel and mounted the shifter a few inches deeper. It was in line with the stock auto's stalk, and everything then fit under the original console, and factory leather boot. It looks stock (except for the handle) and feels much better, but it took a significant amount of work. You will want to rivet and glass the box in place, and then insulate it as it is literally 1/2 inch from the tranny case.
