Default TPIS or Lingenfelter Headers

Anyone feel that the TPIS headers are superior to Lingenfelter's. The Lingenfelter's are 14 gauge steel, one piece, and seem more cleanly designed. However, the newest TPIS units are 3-Pc. and seem much easier to install.

Anyone with experience on quality, fit, and ease of installation, please post results!!!

I put TPIS headers on my '91. They were very easy to get in. You just need to...and I quote "Follow the directions!!!" There is a very small, but important part about removal of the right diagonal brace and trimming so the header clears. Doing this first will save you a lot of effort (and yes, I forgot to read the directions carefully first :bb )

I've seen many of the Lingenfelter headers after a few years and they really look bad. I don't know who he sends them to for coating, but it does not last. The TPIS headers are Jet-Hot coated, and so far mine look just like new.

If you get some stainless headers and coat them, you'll have the best of both worlds, no rust and the coating keeps the heat inside the header.

Hope this helps.

I love my LPE ceramic coated headersl. Nothing needed to be cut or changed. I have a convertible so I needed to put spacers on the X frame.

I lovemy DRM longtubes. They fit great with no banging or bending.

I have the TPIS. They weren't too bad to install. Just a little banging because I have straight plug heads, no grinding on mine. They sure do look pretty. One reason I went with TPIS is that if you have an '85 like mine there is a flange that needs to be welded on the LPE y-pipe. That was a little more than I felt like doing at home.

Main thing I wasn't too happy about was that there was a leak in the passenger side header. When I took it off I could see a hidden pinhole on a weld. I can understand how they may have missed this. I had to send it back for repair. I shipped it overnight back (compliments of TPIS) and they returned it right away. I was very impressed with the service. I could have had it repaired locally, but I was told it would void my warrenty.

I would get these again or the hookers. Hope this heips!

I've had both and the TPIS are better. Still a far cry from being great but better than the LPE's IMO. Plug changing is alot easier with the TPIS.

I have the longtube headers from Exotic Muscle, they fit great and Im very happy with them, they do require a slight bit of fabrication just like the TPIS headers but overall they are a great piece. I felt the price was great as well, I paid $680 for them coated and shipped.

I had the DRM longtubes on order for 2 months and then I had to cancel the order due to a production problem (the guy that was making the headers no longer was going to make them so they had to find another person to fabricate them) I would have had to wait at least 1-2 more months for them.

As far as performance, I ran my best time yet with them on. I ran a 12.4@116MPH on motor with them in 90 degree weather with 90+ percent humidity. In that kind of weather I would normally run 12.7-12.8@111-113MPH so I can say they were good for at least 3 tenths and 2-3 MPH not to mention the seat of the pants and sound are way better as well
