Default Windshield wiper upgrade didn’t work.

I have a 1988 vette.
I saw where you could upgrade the windshield wipers for 84 to 94 C4s with the 95/96 wiper arms and blades for less windshield wiper crashes.
The newer wiper arms fit right on the windshield wiper stems of the earlier C4.
I ordered the new wiper arms/blades from chevy and the wiper blades do not fit under the hood.
When I asked if they would refund the items they looked at my car and said I just needed to adjust my hood latch catch out and hood bumpers up and that would give me the ¼ inch clearance I needed.
When I tried to do this it was obvious that the hood latch catch/pin was not easily adjusted.
I took the catch/pin off the hood and put it in a vise and it unscrewed it about 1/16th turn out “counter clockwise”.
I didn’t adjust it out any more than the 1/16th turn because it was really hard to turn and I just didn’t think it seemed right.
I mean the hood has been just fine adjusted the way it is for the last 19 years, why change the adjustment now?
Does anyone think I should continue to adjust the hood or just go back to the wiper arms and blades made for the 1988 vette?

Default Wipers

I had trouble with my drivers side blade hitting, i ordered a new blade from local chevy dealer, just the blade cost about $25.00 .this didn;t solve the hitting, so i tryed bending the wiper arm .this worked well enough that it does not hit. just be (gentle) when bending. i hope this helps.

I had the same problem with mine as you described in your situtation. However I didn't have to adjust anything. I did bend the arms a little to help them sit under the hood, but when I did this.. the arms do not have enough tension when wiping water off the windshield. They also lift off the window sometimes when driving in the rain due to the wind. I feel that this upgrade isn't worth the time and money for. I will be going back to the original set up soon.

Just switch to Anco Blades, they fit without bending or adjusting anything. Tell your dealer he don't know squat either!

If you remove the grill infront of the windshield and losen the nut on the wiper arm push down the wiper arms they should fit, under the hood.

I had a history of windshield wiper crashes on my 94 Corvette. I adjusted linkages and cleaned windshield. All to no avail.
This is what I did to stop the fighting, I installed a sixteen inch blade on drivers side and a eighteen inch on passenger side.
No adjustments, I needed new blades anyway, bought at local parts store, took old blade with me to match up and I have been happy ever since. And yes, my blades stopped fighting, they do chatter sometimes though.
Maybe this solution would work on yours.

I did the upgrade on my 86 and bought the parts from gmpartsdirect. I also replaced the transmissions because they were worn. Work perfect now.

I decided to just smash the new wipers and arms down flat on the windshield.........they work fine now!
I try not to force it if it don't work but this time it seems to have been the best solution.
The up grade to the 95-96 wiper arms/blades now gets my blessing.
