1985 Corvette ground strap
I have a 1985 M/T with new engine. I had a custom intake and prom chip made for it. It runs like ****. It stumbles and hesitates, among other things. I know there is probably more than a ground wrong with it, but I remembered that when I took out the old motor the braided ground strap snapped because I didn't see it while lifting it out. I have absolutely no idea where it went. Anybody have any clue???
I hooked it up to a Snap-On scanner and it would not communicate with the ALDL. I'm not sure if these problems are related or not, just thought I'd mention it.

There are a bundle of grounds that connect to the rear of the head or block on the drivers side. These are important so you will have to trace them down and repair if need be. As far as the motor not running so hot I feel your pain as I had the same problem with my 85 when I put the 383 in this winter. My problem was the harness to MAF connectors were spread to far apart to make good contact. I snugged them back up after an exhaustive search for the elusive problem and even went as far to buy another MAF sensor but in the end it was the small stuff that stifled me throughout. If you have the FSM you'll be well on your way to getting your problem fixed, if not you might want to consider purchasing one from www.helminc.com. Invaluable at solving problems and will save you a lot of money in the end. Good luck!

The braided strap on the driver side, low in the engine compartment, should connect the block to the frame connecting to the block in that bundle mentioned by goldeneye.
