Hello. Has anyone ever heard of a cruise control not working because of a short in the dash? I have replaced the cruise contol unit itself with a new one and the dealer says the problem is under the dash. Under the dash? Where? Thank you for you consideration. Bob
No expert here, but i have read that the digi dash is partly responsible in the operation of cruise control. You should re post this in C4 Tech.
Here some info from my 86 manual http://members.shaw.ca/agent86/Cruise%20Control.pdf
I had a problem with my cruise switch in the turn signal stalk. Replaced it, guess what? The new one was bad to. Returned it and the new one worked fine. The FSM steps you through the troubleshooting to eliminate the various components like the stalk switch, the brake vacuumn switch, etc. Without the FSM info you're just shooting in the dark. Don't throw money at it replacing parts. Maybe someone will post the FSM info in your thread.

I don't know what year you have but my 85 is definitely controlled thru the digital dash. I just had trouble with mine and although it wasn't the dash it still is a major player. Gordon Killebrew has a small booklet that will tell you all about the digital dash with a section on the cruise control. It's $30 and it is the second best book investment I have ever made, next to the FSM. Make sure the switch on your brake pedal is adjusted correctly, they have a very poor way of attaching the switch and it can get out of adjustment.
