Hi guy's need a little help with interior light problem. 84 Vette interior lights time out when doors are closed but after there off for a couple minutes they will come back on stay on for a couple minutes flicker and then go out..this will go on until the battery dies. Also when i drive down the road sometimes when I hit a bump the interior lights flicker on and off. Any help would be great..Thanks, Bill
Hmm, I don't know if a courtesy lamp switch being loose or bad will cause this, but maybe it would be a good idea to loosen and tighten both of them to better ground them; see if this helps the problem.
Also, the courtesy light delay timer may be bad....its located behind the breadbox (on an 85) and is easy to bypass by jumping 2 wires in the plug once you get back there. Do a search for this, I can't remember which 2 colored wires they are, but the info is here...I've done it.
Just a couple easy ideas to help isolate your problem; hope it helps!
Check the hatch pin switch. Maybe loose and/or out of adjustment. Hatch glass wiggle, lights come on.
Thats a good tip...you can even unplug it back there to keep the lights off ...I did that when I was using a hatch vent bracket and the button on top of the switch had cracked halfway off, causing an intermittent problem with the lights going on and off.
My 84 did the same thing. The timer for the lights went bad. I could get them to shut off by tapping on the passenger side kick panel. However they would come back on sometims. the timer is a small black box under dash on pass. side.
Ok, timer is disconnected for the courtesy lights. I did a search for information regarding bypassing the timer but nothing came back.. Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks, Bill
I don't know how to bypass but GM still sold the timer 5 years ago.I think it fit other cars. I would try the dealer and find out if it did. Then a trip to the bone yard might pay off.

I'll try the dealer tomorrow. Thank you again for all your help. Without the forum I'm sure it would have taken sometime to find my problem. Thanks again, Bill
Got It! On the connecter, for the courtesy light delay, terminal A to terminal D (single white wire = A to double white wire = D) delay is now bypassed.
If I ever need to get back there again I'm SURE I'll knock off my jumper wire!
BTW HT1663WB, is your interior red? My black 85 has a graphite interior. Might be buying carpet soon and am considering a change to red. I think it might look good even to leave the seats graphite against a red carpet and console lid. What do you think?
my car has red carpet, black seats, black console and a black dash all the interior trim is also black including the door panels. If I could figure out how to post pics I could show you. I think the graphite would look good with the red.
