Default Headlight Motors

My right headlight is acting wierd..
It wount open full or close full. Its not that the headlight Motor is keept running like it whas a bad gear or something. Is more like the headlight Motor is not running long enough to fully close or open.
I tried to adjust the end point with the "screw" on top of the motor, but no luck.

But if I tap the light switch on/off the headlight will eventually close or open. Its like its not getting any end point reference.

Where shall I start to look?

Thanks

Check to see if the headlight housing is hitting on anything. Mine has a very similar problem, because it hits on the coolant line that runs to the resevoir. Check for any rubbing. If it always gets caught in a predictable place, that may be the cause.

The nylon bushings are going out, you have to take the the motor apart and replace the bushings. There is a Tech writeup on this, also do a search and you will find lots of threads on this.

the thing is that it always stay around 2cm from total open or total closed. If I adjust the "open" position with the adjust screw it wount close all the way, and if I adjust the "closed" position it wound be fully open.
Makes me frustraded..

Ok I thought that bad nylon bushings would make the headlight motor keep running even if the lights are fully up? But if not, thanks for the help. New nylon bushings it is.

Thanks

The motor keeps running after the bushings are almost gone or gone, there is an inbetween stage were mine did what yours is doing. Also make sure the headlight bracket and linkage are not bent.

My headlights are also not fully opening on occasion and the motors are running longer than they should. Should I replace the gears at the same time as the bushings or is this not necessary. The plastic bushings are $5. The plastic bushings and plastic gear is $28. And the bronze is $60 with the plastic bushings. How many gears and bushings do I need to do both lights in my 95. Those prices were from the forum store in case anyone is wondering. http://www.zip-products.com/Corvette...5DB968D33C5EF1

Thanks

Ok. There is no mechanical seting that I might try adjust? Something that might also be bad?

You should have marked the position of the bracket before you took it off. That is the only place to adjust the headlight, if they are not but back correctly then your light will not open and close properly. Check your alignment and check your bushings again.

Get the BUSHINGS, first. I'd say 90 percent of all 1988-96 headlight motor failures are due to worn bushings. Check the Tech Tips section on this Forum for the article that tells you how to remove them. You can also refer to this Corvette Fever article for help.

You will need 6 bushings total. Three on both sides.

The hardest thing about replacing the bushings is hammering the roll pin out. #$%# this, #$%# that, then its easy from there.

You can use Home Depot bushings. The item number is 595609.

Replacement bushing are also available at your local parts store that sells "HELP" / "MOTORMITE" brand items.

They are the same for Ford truck window regulators. About $6.00-$8.00 per side at the parts stores.

Motormite parts # 74410.

Just tryin' to help a brother out...
