I have the chance to buy a LT1 engine and tranny for cheap and I was wondering what all will I need and need to change to put in my 84. Right now I have the crossfire with an auto tranny that I JUST rebuilt.

well... you will need the LT1 ECM, harness, accessories and exhaust. The ECM will need to have the CCM programmed out of it.

This will effectively gut everything from the L83 and replace with the newer stuff.

You will need to make the AC work, and the digital IP.

This is a significant amount of work... but I think it's well worth it.

Which did you just rebuild, the engine, the tranny or both? Is the transmission behind the LT1 for a Vette? The LT1's a sweet engine, don't get me wrong. I love mine. But even if that package is cheap, everything else needed to make it work won't be. Say nothing of the time involved in making it work in your car. Some well selected mods could have your car running as well or better than an LT1 for probably less money and certainly a lot less work. I'm not trying to dissuade you but only want to make sure you know what you're getting into.

Is the trans with the LT1 auto or manual? If it is auto, it should be the 4L60E, electronic trans, which needs support from the computer. In any case I wouldn't even think about this conversion without the '94 computers and wiring harness. The A/C shouldn't be a problem, because the '84 doesn't rely on the ECM to operate it. TPI conversions are a waste of resources. Carb conversions are a step back in time, but CAN have some real benefits. Although, very involved, I'm sure, this is ONE L83 conversion that guarantees results.

I just rebuilt the tranny and the tranny that comes with the LT1 is an auto also. Thanks for the advise, at this point I'm probably just going to build the engine I have.

There is no reason you can't use your fresh 1984 trans behind the LT1. All you'll have to do is rig up a proper lever on the TB to activate the TV cable.
