Is there anything special that I would have to do to put synth. brake fluid in a 89? Or shouldn't I do it? I am putting all new pads & draining the old black fluid & putting in fresh. I just purchased the car & am starting to go through it. Also w/128,000 mi. on the motor which starts & runs well, would running Mobile 1 hurt? Thanks, Donf
I thought I read somewhere that the Syn brake fluid is not good to use. its chemical composition to eliminate moisture is corrosive. Can anyone confirm this???
You can use a good DOT3 or DOT4 fluid like Castrol LMA, Ford Motorsports HD, or the Valvoline SynPower and would cost a bit less. Unless you are using the car for high-speed use like track days, you may not realize any benefits from a true DOT5.1 synthetic. But it will work. Find the fluid with the highest wet boiling point.
With 128K on the car, you may see some leaks form from changing to Mobil-1. Mobil-1 has cleaners that will tear down the old oil and crud and opens up any weak spot or places where oil can flow out. Mobil-1 will protect the engine against high oil temps and provide much better wear protection compared to dino oil.

I read something like this too, although it said it was unsuitable for use with the ABS....
