Has annyone installed a tranny temp reader? I whant to be abel to read my tranny temp during driving, where can i found the parts for this installation, and how to do it?
I'll be looking forward to seeing an answer to this after my tranny dying this week. I saw a number of them in Summit's catalog, but was wondering what others have used and how they mounted so it still looks good.
I switched the stock oil temp gauge to tranny temps. I have a TransBrake and I need to watch tranny temps closely. I put the sender in the line to the cooler with a "T" fitting. Works well!
where is this "summit"? I think in the side of the tranny pan will work for me Dosent sound to hard to install.. How hot can the tranny fluid be? What maxium temp must the gauge show?
I think the highest temp I've seen someone post was around 240 or so. Gets to be about the same temp as oil if you are doing a lot of hard accelerating.. and especially if you are keeping the torque converter unlocked... building up heat that way.
I put a temp guage in my car for the tranny. I took the pan off and installed a B&M drain kit. It is a double bolt kind of thing that you drill a hole in the pan and bolt it in. I got a tranny temp guage kit from Autometer. It comes with two different size fittings to screw the temp sender into. One of those fittings fits right into the drain kit. I mounted the guage on the front of the dash lip just in front of the left vent opening above the driver information center. It works great. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it yet.
170 to 190 are good numbers for a 700R4 w/a quality tranny cooler. Some guys like to measure it @ the pan & some as it comes out of the cooler. the thought coming out of the cooler is that you know that the tranny is not so hot that it is overcoming the ability of the cooler.
What happened to your tranny that caused it to die?
Haven't gotten that far yet, I just dropped the exhaust and the trans pan. Had plenty of metal shavings in it.
Hope to have time to drop the tranny by the end of weekend and get a peek inside.
Most gauges are attempting to read the actual working temperature of the fluid. They are installed before the cooler. - either in the pan or on the line to the cooler.
You can put it anywhere you wish, but your temperature readings from the return line will not be comparable to typical readings.
You can determine the proper line by starting the car and feeling the lines. The warmer one is from the tranny to the cooler. The other one is the return from the cooler to the tranny.
