Hey guys, i have a 91 with an auto transmission. I was wondering what kind of situations you would use gears 2 or 1 in? I have 2.59 gears and my tranny appears to have 1st gear lock out. But where is a situation where i would use 2? If you drove around in 2 would it stay in 2 or would it shift out of there?
If you put it in 2, it'll stay in either 1 or 2. You use them in the same situations you'd use them for a manual. Some people like to shift the car themselves. On very short autox tracks you would want to leave it down there.
First shouldnt be locked out, but the shifter on automatics doesnt seem to like being put into 1st, just not enough room in that hole and the boot bunches up. Mine doesnt ever want to come back that far, though I have done it.

My former 86 did the same thing, wouldnt shift that far back enough to catch 1st...I would imagine the only time using that low gear, like 2nd would be if you went down a hill and had brake problems?
Dont see a need to use it on the vette on the streets and highways unless you needed an emrgency slow down and needed some engine braking to help the car stop or slow down.
Thanks Vader, i figured 1st would be locked out, i was kind of leery to take it back any farther, it just didnt seem to want to go. But thanks for clearing that up!
