I am putting some front poly sway bar bushings in. The kit reuses the original metal housings. I pressed the old rubber out of the top stock unit, but there is still some old rubber stuck to the inside of the old housing. How do you get all the old rubber out without wrecking the housing?
I drilled mine out..made several holes in the old rubber in different places, then pushed it out with a strong screw driver or chisel. If youre careful you wont damage anything.Use alot of lube like WD40 when working on it.
Some people say torch them out but I dont care for the smell of burning rubber too much.
I am using a wire bursh in my moto tool to get the rubber that is stuck to the side out. It slow going but it's working. I didn't want to burn it out either.
Well I ended up burning off the rubber that was stuck inside the upper bushing housing. I pressed it out of the sway bar first with a 3/8 in. bolt, big washer and a big socket. I used a propane torch to get it burning then after a few seconds I used a screw driver to scrape
the rubber off. I used a wire brush in a Dremel moto tool to clean it up. Reinstalling everything was about the same as the stock bushings. I installed the top bolt first. Then I used a small crow bar to persuade the link into alignment with the lower bushings and a small bottle jack under the A arm to raise it up to get the lower bolt in.
