In the past, all I've ever done is retard the timing back to 6 degrees initial (5 minutes), put the stock cat back on (20 minutes) and the smog pump back on ( 1 hour or so), thus every 2 years I have a couple of hours of work to do.... no big deal.
The LPE 74219 is a clean cam, the SR has a CA emissions #, and the motor passes smog with literally flying colors. The headers however do not have a carb#, this is because the O2 sensor is located in a primary tube, which is unacceptable to the California smog police, thus the header companies know they cannot get the exemption, therefore they don't even try anymore. I think if they put the sensor down in the collector it would be acceptable to the smog police, but the sensor may not heat-up down there quick enough for them.... dunno. But regardless, nobody has said anything to me as of yet about them. But I am kinda been on a buddy system....
However, all of this has changed this morning.... I just replaced my front y-pipe and open cat with straight through true dual 3" exhaust.... so don't know what I'm gonna do in the future for sure... I have a few ideas, but we'll see.
FYI, if you put in a heated O2 sensor you can put it down on the collector. I got mine from the GM Dealer & an "adapter Kit" from white racing & marine (on line) & it was superb. the Quality was great & it esentially snapped right in.
True, you can put a heated O2 sensor in the collector... but unfortunatley the header part # will still not carry a CARB# unless the manufacturer makes the change and re-submits for a carb #... which costs somewhere around 10k from what I've been told.
