Default ZF6 Bellhousing - HELP?!?!

Problem resolved - see below!!!

Well my transmission is out, but now I cannot get the bellhousing/clutch cover to BUDGE!!

I've removed 6 bolts, including the odd bolt that all the grounds connect to. I also removed the small bolts that hold the inspection cover, the inspection cover, slave cylinder and the starter. Feeling around, I don't see any more bolts holding the bellhousing in place. I have hammered and pried, and it still feels as if there is something holding it on there. I have read the instructions to "rotate the bellhousing" - not sure how I can do that since it has no play and won't move in any direction.

I thought at first that somehow the release fork was holding it on - but I completely unscrewed the fork pivot and nothing changed.

There are two odd little rivet-type things at 9 and 3 o'clock - maybe some sort of locating studs? They have no socket flats, they don't appear like you could remove them without drilling them out. Do these need to be removed? How?

Thanks-Dave

There's dowels at 3 and 9 oclock. They locate the bellhousing. You have to just pry it back off those. The rotating comes in after you get it past the dowels, spin the bell counterclockwise to get it out of the tunnel.

Thanks for the reply CC. You guys are the best. I would never have attempted such an involved repair without this forum backing me up.

After taking a little break to clear my mind, I went back out, sprayed down the bellhousing/block seam with PB Blaster (I love that stuff). Then, using a 1/4 inch extension as a drift, I tapped all around the bellhousing. Sure enough, I saw a gap, inserted a big flat screwdriver, and worked the housing off.

Just FYI, the old clutch disc was 6.2 mm thick, the brand new one is 8.2 mm. So not a lot of wear for 80k miles and 17 years. But the pressure plate and the flywheel have burns or some other sort of discoloration all over them. I'm taking pics and I'll try to get a thread up about my whole ordeal when it's over.

What you are describing is a perfect example of normal clutch wear.
