My 88 runs real good most of the time. Occasionally it will stumble for a split second. At other times it runs perfectly. It does this usually at highway speeds and constant throttle, just a short "burp" and then away she goes again. If I give it gas it accelerates good and the stumble goes away.
Since the fuel pressure regulator gets it's signal from the intake air pressure (I think) has anyone had problems with the vacuum line from the intake to the regulator intermittently causing problems? It baffles the $%$$% out of me why it runs great most of the time but stumbles occasionally. My worry is that if something is starting to fail it might just fail permanently and this will of course be at the worst time.
Could this be a timing issue? That is the only thing I havn't done. Cleaned injectors, checked sparkplug wires and checked all vacuum hoses. What else???
You could tape a fuel pressure guage to your winshield and go for a drive. If pressure drops when the problem occurs then there is a fuel problem. A FPR diaphram is the usual thing to go out when dealing with a FPR. Could also be a spart issue.
You can pull the vacuum on the FPR and look inside if you see gas it is a sign of a leaky diapgram. If you check fuel pressure and it drops pretty fast it could also point to FPR, leaky injector, leaky check valve in tank. The guage on the windshield would rule out fuel problems as long as there is not a big drop while driving.
