a clicking sound at about 1/3 throttle from either standing start or after maybe jumping on it about 20mph? Originally I thought the sound was U joints so I had my mechanic replace all of them with Spicers. Now about $700 later, I am still getting the sound. I took my mechanic for a ride today and he felt the sound was coming form the front end, most likely drivers side. I know my ball joints have been bad for some time and I have been pressing my luck. A get decent amount of vibration thru the steering wheel and there was some play when I had my mechanic look them over a month ago.
The sound is like a loud click, almost like from an electrical relay but many times louder. Also, it will click from one to three times and then stop. Needless to say I'm not thrilled about spending $$ on the joint replacement when it wasn't the problem. but I race it so the beefier joints aren't the worst thing in the world.
I ordered Moog ball joints today from Rock Auto and I am going to have the control arm bushings replaced also. Any other ideas?
Look at the top A frame and see if the alighnment shims are in place. Mine fell out on my C3 one time and it was clicking like that.
That's interesting. I've been getting that same clicking sound too since getting an allingment from the front drivers side tire area. Can only hear it low speeds. This past weekend I greased all the u-joints and that didn't stop the click. I was just thinking I needed new brakes due to the wear sensor.
I found the shims on this other topic. I went out there and put some grease on the shims and it made all the difference. This will probably be a monthly problem.
