I haven't had this problem with my vettes, but I did in my 97 Dodge Ram. When the engine was cold I could drive for about 5 miles before my speedometer or odometer would start working. Sometimes my check engine light would come on and sometimes not. I went to Autozone and they check it and said it was the speedsensor. I replaced it and it has worked since. Maybe someone else can chime in with some more suggestions.
