Default '94 vette fuel filter replacement......

[/B]Hi.....Can anyone tell me how i go about changing the fuel filter on my '94 vette and if i need special wrenches to get to it in the fender well ?

Thanks,
Rick

P.S.... I want to put on a fuel preasure regulator. once it's on do i need a gauge to adjust it?

I'm probably wrong but I thought the FF was on the right frame rail just behind the right ww?

I know on my 90 that's where it is. You jack up and there is a heat shield you take off first and then you see the filter. You should have Line wrenchs for the filter and you need a back up wrench, 22mm I think, I never remember. You hold the nut on the fuel filter and work the nut on the fuel line, take off the filter brkt and undo the other side of the filter. You should hit the schrader valve on the fuel rail to relieve the stored pressure and I always open the gas cap.

Wish I could remember the wrench sizes!

Can't answer about the pres reg., the OE reg is pre-set I think? If you go aftermarket I would think you need a gauge to adjust it.

Hi Tom, I'v met you at Heavenly Donuts on Derby ave and one or two cruises. The fuel filter is up behind the frame rail , you are right. I jaced up the car and found it but to get wrenches to is tough.Where is the shrader valve?

Yea I thought I remembered the red vette, sweet car!!

I can't remember but there is a trick because the return line is sooo close to the filter. I can't remember if I take the brkt off first but you have some wiggle on the return line...just enough to move it a bit so you can get the wrench in there. You would think I could remember because I change mine every year. The schrader valve is on one of the fuel rails, up front usually....LT5's have them on the right rail at the front of the motor...on an LT1/4/98 I don't know where it is but it looks just like the A/C connection where you put the gauges to test the system pressure. You gotta dump the pressure before you start loosening any line fittings or you get a bath.

ok, thanks. How is your z running ? I love those cars. The filter is sitting upright and i cant see or get to the top nut. Does the preasure build back up when you go to start the car?

The schrader valve is on the right side fuel rail. I changed the filter on my 95 about 2 years ago and don't really remember any tips but it's not easy. I don't remember and special tools needed. The FPR has a set pressure when you buy it unless you get a adjustable FPR. You will need a guage to check pressure and set pressure.

Make sure you pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine. Let it run until it starves. Then disconnect the battery.

Then open the gas tank cap to relieve pressure.

This will greatly reduce the amount of fuel in the system and negate the possibility of a spark touching off an explosion. Remember, you're dealing with approx. 50 lbs. or more of gasoline under pressure!

It's too easy to touch the starter motor contacts or something underneath there and BOOM!

If you buy a Holley AFPR it claims to be preset to 43.5 lbs. but it's going on a friend's track car and I haven't installed it or verified that yet. The Aeromotive I put on mine was not, it was actually set to around 50 lbs. when I applied system pressure to it. I don't know about any other brands.
