I have been having an ignition problem for quite some time now. Here is a brief summary of what has happened. I was driving home from work last October when the car just shut off. I finally got it started again but it shut off several miles down the road. It gave no warning when it shut off. It would randomly start, run for a bit, and then shut off. Each time I did this to try and trouble shoot it seemed like the time it ran got shorter and shorter. Now it will not start at all. Here is what I have checked so far.
• Engine cranks over fine. All instruments, light, etc. Operate normal.
• Fuel pressure is good at the rail. Pump turns on and primes with key to 42 psi.
• Battery is fully charged.
• I do not get any codes when checked with several scanners (Tech 1, Modus)
• I found that I do not have spark at the coil
• The wire ground from the coil to the block is good from the coil.
• I checked coil and ICM. Both tested good, I even switched them with a known good set I had just to make sure.
• ICM connector (ignition on) terminal A and D are at 12V
• ICM terminal C checks out good for ground
• ICM terminal B has 0 volts on AC scale (this is with connector unplugged, not sure if that is right)
• Is there a way to check the opti signal? What pins can I check at the opti connector on the Pass Side of manifold?
I’m totally baffled. The weird part is that it would run and then just shut off. When it ran it ran nice and smooth.
It has a dynaspark opti I put in last year about 8000 miles ago. I sure hope it isn't that again. Hopefully someone else has had a similar problem. Any help or advice it greatly appreciated.
I know on ZR-1's there is a saftey switch on the clutch pedal and when it goes it won't start. Does all MN6/C4's have those? It's a common thing on ZR-1's.
The motor cranks over strong every time and I switched out my coil with one in my friends car that we know is good along with the ICM. I would say it is the opti-sensor lowside not giving a signal but why don't I get a code. Could it be the PCM, but shouldn't there be other signs of a PCM failure like not cranking, gages going wacky. Thxs
