Default Engine/clutch slippage?

Hi, I just bought my first (used) 1994 Vette on Monday. When I bought it, I had a mechanic check it out, and he said it was in good shape (for 81,000 miles) but it was going to need a clutch soon.

Less than a week of not so gentle driving and I notice that when I accelerate at 25% pedal or less, the car has plenty of "bite" and it gooooes... G-d I love this car. But now if I push the gas pedal down to let's say 50% or more, it seems like the engine revs up more, like it is slipping out of gear, or maybe engaging overdrive, and the car doesn't "bite" the street as much, doesn't get up and go...

Is this the clutch, or another problem? (I notice a very small noise when the clutch is engaged in neutral & 1st gear, and it won't engage at all until I release the clutch pedal almost 75% up from the floor).

I want to have a good understanding of what this could be before I bring it to a mechanic.

By the way, if anyone has a recommendation for a Boynton Beach, FL mechanic I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
John

Slipping clutch. I would suggest using an ASE tech & preferably an iATN member.
