Default ZF6spd

I installed a ZF 6spd from my totaled 96 into my 64 GS. I just changed the transmission oil and I had a chunk of metal in the drain plug. I did not have any issues before the car got totaled 3 yrs ago. I am about a month away from getting the LT4 in the GS fired up but I am afraid I will need a transmission shortly there after. Any comments/advise?.

wow. that cannot be good.

what does the chunk look like? how does the tranny work, currently? or is it not in use?

What I am thinking is that there was a chunk of debris left in from the manufacturing... and by the grace of God, it never got chewed up.

Otherwise, check with www.zfdoc.com.

The first time I changed the oil in my ZF6, I also found a small chunck of metal. That was 4 years ago, and after many hard runs it is still performing well.

Show us the piece and we'll try and identify it.

Even if it's a small chip off a gear tooth, it's far from dead.

Thanks I do not think it was a piece from a gear tooth, it was thin about 1/4'' and jagget. Its already in the trash. Otherwise, the oil looked good and clean, the tranny only has 20k on it and its the first change. The car is currently not running.

it sounds like it could be nothing, or something.

I would install the transmission and use it. If it blows, oh, well. I know where you can get a blue tag, cheap.
