em header extensions? 96 LT1 auto

em header extensions? 96 LT1 auto
I purchased a set of the em headers. They are coated and I purchased a set of the header extensions as well. They are coated and I was assured that they would fit. Well, as some of you hopefully know they don't. I am having a trouble with the drivers side flange hitting the shifter cable assembly. I have seen at least one member talk about removing the flanges and I would assume welding them back togeather. I would like to know what some of you have done to fix this problem. I really am not wanting to cut and weld these extensions if I do not have to. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks in advance.

I had to cut the flange and weld mine. I planned on doing the install at my house and could not get them to fit so I took them to a local independent muffler shop. The guy at the muffler shop thought that the extensions were too nice to cut and weld so he tried to get them to fit too. (and couldn't so he cut and welded)
