I have had my 95 vette for about a month or so, my first BTW. I have the FSM and have been reading that and anything else so I can to determine what I can and can't handle as far as repairs are concerned. I seem to recall reading somewhere that in 95, the early production models were OBD I and that later they switched over to OBD II. I am considering a scanner. If I am correct, I want to make sure I am looking at the right one.
Am I correct?
If so, then how do I tell which version I have?
Thanks Vis Croceus, I have the FSM's, just had not found that in it as yet. I have been tied up with Dimmer Switch and PKE problems. I appreciate you reply.
I also have a 95 and am a "newbie" too. Took me a while to figure out that the 95 has a hermaphrodite OBD system. It has an OBD II plug but is OBD1. You get the codes by shorting out the correct pins (paperclip works well) which then displays the codes on the dash.
Here's a couple of links that may be of help to you.
1. Lots of good info/links on OBD1-2 - http://www.aldlcable.com/
Check the link ALDL w/OBD2 for info on a 95 corvette cable. Also check the OBD2 Scan Tool button for links for free laptop diagnostic software.
2. I got tired of standing on my head and trying to get the paper clip in the correct numbered pin holes so I bought a J1962M to J1962F - 5 foot extension cable. http://obd2cables.com/products/ (click on the cable shown on the link page-this is the cable) This way I can sit comfortably in the driver's seat, do the paperclip thing, and record the codes from the dash.(and drink a beer at the same time!

Great Idea, thanks. Refreshment consumption is a very important part of the love affair with the vette.
