My Corvette is Posessed!
93 6spd, No PKE, No auto AC, No power seats, Delco Radio...not Bose.
It only happens on long trips. I was cruising at 70mph with Cruise on...and all of a sudden the PKE light comes on the cluster and the doors lock, and the hatch pops open....at speed.
The previous time the doors locked and unlocked, the tape deck ejected the tape and the hatch popped.
After stopping and restarting the car...the light stayed on. I shut it down again for about 2 minutes while I changed underwear....and after restarting....the light was off.
Strange....since I dont have the PKE, or fobs, etc.
Any suggestions on what is going on??
Last time some bags got sucked out the back...and the wife was not to happy to get backinto the car...this time it just scared me, but not a good feeling at speed...!!
I would suggest you check grounds... that's my first idea.
Inside the kick panels are main ground points. Make sure there isn't any corrosion on them.
Also, check the main grounds around the battery. It might require some disassembly of the body and inner fender to access this area completely. Also, check the main power leads behind the battery.
Finally, www.helminc.com and get a copy of the Factory Service Manual. It will have the appropriate flowcharts you will need to back track this problem.
As for the tape deck, I have no clue. You can pull the PKE fuse but might kill your radio also depending how its wired. That would shut down the PKE. It usually is a common fuse but I need to check on how it is labeled.
If you go into the PKE programming mode with the buttons on the gauges/fuel panel and the PKE light flashes, you have PKE.

Accepting that the function is there, is it at all possible you've got a fob lost in the car somewhere by a previous owner. If it is lodged under / in one of the seats you could be 'accidentally' pushing a button unknowingly on those two occasions - or a third! Good luck with your problem,
I will start tracking down my grounds and checking them.
Play devils advocate anytime...I am by know means a GURU...
If I determine that I do have PKE...do I just take it to a dealer and get some fobs....or can I get the code somewhere...etc etc?? Try to stay away from the stealership as much as possible!
Its time to start checking every crack and crevice for those dang fobs...its the only thing I think of that would trigger the hatch!

It really sounds like the PKE module is wigging out. In agreement though it might be loose grounds.

I like your theory on the eject problem, but in reality it is a stretch. I don't think you can pull the 12 volts down so low that the fuse would not blow first. The fuse only knows current and you will have 12 volts on the output side till it blows.
It would be a nice find to find the key FOB but unless your sitting on it.....Looking for a bad ground or anything strange with the after market setup is a valid starting point. I thought the PKE was standard also but was not sure and did not want to make the statement.
I have seen several posts where the door locks were going nuts, PKE was the suspected item. The PKE box can be unplugged but you will loose your power door locks. Charge on
