only had the yellow zonker about a month. since it has 70K miles, and appears to have the original shocks (delco/bilstien), i thought it might be a good idea to replace 'em. i was at corvette corner (vette specialists shop/sales/accesories) in columbus, ohio, buying a k&n & air box cover & asked about what shocks they carried. after getting the info, the counter guy asked me why i thought i needed shocks. i stated milage/age. he said if they were bad i would definately know it, & suggested i save the money. i don't notice any real adverse handling, but i haven't pushed it either. a little skittish on hard cornering w/ uneven surface, but i've been told this is normal too.
oh yea, i don't have the select ride.
so what do you folks think? any life-span experience with these?
My ~45k Delco-Bilsteins were leaking shock oil all over the place. It was even getting all over the rocker panels! Surprisingly they seemed to drive okay.
If the car isn't porpoising on bumps, and the shocks aren't puking oil, they might be okay. The road test is probably the best bet. HTH.
PS. Bilsteins are good, Delco-Bilsteins are not-so-good.
My '88 had 64k miles when I replaced my shocks. I hadn't noticed any real adverse handling issues, the car was still smooth up to 120mph, cornered real well (I thought), no real brake dive, etc. I got the TPIS shocks which are softer than the bilsteins, and immediately noticed a huge difference in cornering and ride quality. My old shocks were toast! Not sure if I wanna get Bilsteins or stay with these, but I am damn glad I got at least these.
My 94 was bouncing on Interstate bumps. I tried a pair on MonroeSensa tracs. I had them on all four corners of my "72". I really like them. Around $60 for a pair. Heck, I can put on three sets for the price of on set of Bilsteins
i'll do some more road testing & check closer. i cleaned things up before i thought about looking for leaks, but if they leak & aren't leaked dry maybe something will show up on the fresh surface. it does seem to ride ok, but since this is my 1st, i don't have a good basis for comparison. other vehicles i've had really made w/ the bounce when the shocks were shot, but this is a totally different animal.
again thanks for the help. i'm really glad i found this place !!
