The new engine is in(see sig). :D I put it in today. Now I have a couple days of accessory/vacuum line/TPI runner/wiring installation. Does anyone have any first start -up suggestions? I plan on #1 firing position, line up distributor, Prime Fuel/oil/check pressure. CRANK! Sound good?
Re: Engine almost in...Any start up advice??? (FoolCrzy)
When you start it first time, run it in for 5 minutes at 2000 rpm... No synthetic oil first 2000-3000 miles... Have a friend standby and watch for fuel leaks... Tighten headers/manifolds at 500 miles or at any sign of leaks... Be prepared for glitches first 1000 miles...

ditto to everything above. plus:
leave the distributor just loose enough that you can rotate it with some effort. but not very loose. or have a distributor wrench handy. that way if you need to change the timing a little you can. (counter clockwise= advance timing).
have extra coolant handy.
have a fire extenguiser handy ( just incase ).
make sure the battery is fully charged before hand.
change the oil and filter after the first start up to remove the assembly fluid or at the very least change the filter.
for all oil changes: fill the filter with oil before putting it on.. that way it dosn't have to wait for the oil pump to fill it when you restart it.....
