Default Sunoco Ultra 94

A buddy of mine told me that he recently purchased SUNOCO ULTRA 94 octane gas. I was under the impression that Sunoco no longer made the 94 octane? Anyone know? I got a cold 6 pack riding on this bet....G

My Sunoco right down the road no longer carries it, and to my knowledge it has been discontinued for a few years now .

You can get it in PA. I'm originally from NY, take trips from VA to NY every 2 months, and drive through PA. I stop every time at the same gas station in PA and fill up on Sunoco Ultra 94....amazingly for the same or less price as 93 here in VA.

In my area, it has been gone for 6 months or better.

Its right down the road from me, 94 octane. I live in PA.

Thankfully I don't have to waste my money on it.

You can still get it in Canada at any Sunoco station. The problem is that it has ethanol in it and I've been told that L98 engines do not like ethanol.

No way around ethanol down here, it's in every gas station where I am

Luckily my DD is the LT1...

Wow, that is a 'blast from the past'. I haven't seen a Sunoco station for years, figured they got bought out by somebody else.

It's 93 ultra( V powered I think they call it ) @ the Sunoco in up here in Vermont . Its the same price as all of the other places 91 octane . I just found it / filled up there for the first time the other day but I think I'll continue to go . I don't know if it will give me any advantages over the 91 Octane gas for my L98 but for the same price i'll use it .

Ultra 93 = Sunoco
V-Power (also 93 octane) = Shell

Yup! Still available here in the Great White North.

And it's not the engines that don't like Ultra94, it's the injectors that don't like it. The high Methanol content tends to burn them out since it doesn't lubricate as well as gasolines with a lower Methanol content.

After having my bike and hearing from everywhere that sunoco 94 makes less power than other stations gas i used my 04 gsxr 750 as a test mule. From what i've been told ethanol doesn;t have the burn energy that gasonline has and is in effect 'watering' down the gas to increase octane. its the high # that people see and automatically assume it is better gas.

ANyhow I dynoed my gsxr 750 with sunoco gas at 134.7 rwhp. we did 4 runs from cold to hot and the lowest was 132.3. I went for a ride and after a 10 minute blast ( understatement on the 407 ) I filled up with Shell 91. I again went out on the 407 and emptied the tank in about 15 minutes (just to make sure it was out of the system). I filled again with Shell and returned to the dyno. Best dyno was the first after we let her cool for 10 minutes in front of the fan. 138.6 rwhp. lowest was 136.8.

i've never used sunoco 94 since. Another interesting article i read was how clean each gas was. Sunoco 94 was the cleanest. Shell was the dirtiest (toronto star - after all that gm fuel tank sensor issue 2 years back or so) . that further led me to believe the dirtiest gas made more power (thats why i chose shell to do a comparison in the first place)

Just about all brands in Missouri have 10% ehtanol, no problems at all for the L98.

The EPA just banned MTFE ? MTFB? Whatever the additive is. Just a few weeks ago there where gas shortages on the east coast, NJ MD... while the refineries changed over to use Ethanol. This is not the E85 that is coming out, just a different additive package, the MTF? was seeping into wells in MD.

i used to run a digger on 'pop'...alcohol only makes 1/2 the heat (POWER) of gasoline per volume, but you can burn 4 times as much--net is double the output, fine for racing.... but when you buy alcohol in your gas you are getting screwed cause you are getting part of your purchase in 1/2 effective component.

btw--when MBTE was ''discovered'' to be poisoning people, the oil companies were allowed to sell off their gas inventories that were contaminated with it ???????

whenever ambient went below 50* F, nobody could get their cars to fire up on ''good stuff''--had to squirt gasoline into it , maybe get it warm enough to run....vaporization problem...so what happens when winter comes back?
