Default problem with maf sensor and computer ECM

1987 Vette Convertible. Garage replaced MAF sensor and Computer ECM and it seems to run good but the service engine light came back on.Took it back to dealer and they checked code, it was 34 low. They thought it might be a faulty MAF , ordered a new one, under warranty. Question: What could the burn off relays on firewall behind battery cause to affect MAF if anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you .........................Lacy

Yes, they could cause the problem. In fact, most people change the relays first and see if that solves it. If it doesn't then they replace the sensor.

Is it OEM Bosch sensor? I tried a Wells thin film sensor once, I believe it was part number SU-145 and I would get intermittent codes 33 or 34 (I can't remeber which). I put the original Bosch sensor back in and the problem went away.

Hi GlennS87,
Thanks for your input, i shall be talking with the mechanic again tomorrow and ask him if it is a Bosch sensor that was put in. I will get back to you if i need more help. By the way going to give the mechanic the corvette forum addy, as we really do not have a man that knows Corvettes like in the bigger cities , he would welcome any help from ppl like yourself as he already knows i have been asking ppl on here....................thanks again Glenn..............Lacy

For MAF problems you need to replace both Power and Burnoff at the same time, BTW, if you read the FSM both code 33 and 34, as well as 36 can becaused by a fuel pump relay also! second paragraph under codes 33 and 34.

the mechanic should have followed the FSM and he would have olny replaced/fixed one item. Wonder if he has a factory service manual?
