Default 93 lt1 383 stroker-custom chip?

Just had 93 lt1 rebuild 383 stroker-shop guy says wont need new chip.
Stoke will work. Cars idles a little rough-lt4 hot cam, 1.6 rockers unported heads. Do I need a custom chip and who do you recommend.
Will this solve my idle problem or is this normal for stroker.

Thanks

you are not going to fix the lopey idle, but a custom tune will definately make you car idle and run better. the custom chip is like the cherry on top of a bannana split, it's the last mod to make your combo work right.

Definitley get a new chip...the LT4 Hotcam should not have much lope to it on a 383. What are you running for an exhaust?

I have a chip from pcmforless and it made a big difference in idle. Mine isnt even a 383, (see signature) Mine is not as smooth as a stock cam but it is now much improved over stock tune. I believe yours will be even better due to the additional cubic inches. By the way, IMHO you are leaving a lot of power on the table by not porting the heads.

Stock exhaust. Actually it is a 79 corvette with the 93 lt1 383 in it. I do own a 94 lt1 zo7 and love both of them. Thanks

Cool retrofit!

As for the custom chip, it will definitely help and might yield even 20 more/less hp besides generally better overall driveability. That said, mail order chips are a shot in the dark. Find a tuner in your area (which is?) that does a dyno tune service. It can be twice the price of a mail tune, but then again mine cost 3x! the mail tune because the mail tune sucked and I had to then have it tuned right on a dyno with a wideband. I highly suggest talking to TJWong on the forum here. He is an awesome tuner and a really nice guy, he is located in Vancouver, WA if that is anywhere near you.

Good luck!
(And if you go mail order...you'll need it!!!)

Definitely get a tune. No doubt the stock computer can run it the way it is but if you built a 383 i would assume you wouldn't want to leave hp, tq and better driveability on the table.

That's Ed Wright, I've dealt with him a lot and have always been very satisfied. He does very good mail-order tunes, almost always spot-on. The one time I had a problem (and it turned out NOT to be his programming) he sent me out an entirely new ECM, without requireing me to send the one I already had back...and told me there was no rush sending one of them back to him. He can be hard to get on the phone sometimes, but that's to be expected because he's very busy. Anyway, like I said I've always been happy with his work.

I wasn't too happy with Fastchip, went with PCM for Less.

You would definitely benefit from a custom chip.
