First, determine the lift of the cam. Where did .520" come from? Is it the spec of a cam in an engine with 1.5:1 rocker arms? If so figure YOUR valve lift. Then compress the springs (of one cylinder) to open the valves to YOUR max lift. Then check the spring coils for adequate clearance to prevent coil bind and the spring retainer to valve guide/seal for sufficient clearance.

If you are changing cams I would get new springs. I prefer Comp.

The lift is 520 with 1.6 ratio rockers, can you give me the formula to figure lift? I'm on a buget or I would spring for new springs, the heads I got used but were gone through. Thanks for the help and advise.

What's to figure? If you know that the lift is 520 with 1.6:1 rockers (that is what you said), and you are using 1.6:1 rockers, what do you want a formula to tell you?

.520 is the amount the valve moves from it's closed position (full up ) to it's max open position.

A valve barely longer than 1/2 an inch? YOU said that the lift is .520".

The first 4 words of that sentence answers it's own question. What do you REALLY want to know?

I'm trying to help. That is why I asked, "What do you REALLY want to know?". The first part of the question provides the answer to the question. ??? From what you have written, I don't understand what it is you are asking. Can you rephrase to tell us what it is you want to know?
