I'm planing on running a 520. lift flat tappet cam, 1.6 roller rockers in my 85 ,my heads are Bow tie cast iron phase 3 #12480034,how can I tell if the heads and springs will work with this lift of cam?The springs look like comp cam hi tec 1.510 dual spring with a damper. Thanks for any help on this
First, determine the lift of the cam. Where did .520" come from? Is it the spec of a cam in an engine with 1.5:1 rocker arms? If so figure YOUR valve lift. Then compress the springs (of one cylinder) to open the valves to YOUR max lift. Then check the spring coils for adequate clearance to prevent coil bind and the spring retainer to valve guide/seal for sufficient clearance.
The lift is 520 with 1.6 ratio rockers, can you give me the formula to figure lift? I'm on a buget or I would spring for new springs, the heads I got used but were gone through. Thanks for the help and advise.
The lift is 520 with 1.6 ratio rockers, can you give me the formula to figure lift?
What's to figure? If you know that the lift is 520 with 1.6:1 rockers (that is what you said), and you are using 1.6:1 rockers, what do you want a formula to tell you?
I'm trying to help. That is why I asked, "What do you REALLY want to know?". The first part of the question provides the answer to the question. ??? From what you have written, I don't understand what it is you are asking. Can you rephrase to tell us what it is you want to know?
