Default Another Opti Install Question

Installing a OEM Opti today. On the heels of taking a gamble & just doing the cap & rotor.

I want to make sure this goes in correctly so I don't have to do this again anytime soon.

On the back of the opti there is a 1 & 9.

1. What is the significance?
2. When placing the Opti on the engine, what slot should the key be in or doesn't it matter?

By all means give me you negative feedback on my poor judgement of just replacing the cap & rotor. I don't want to say how I feel about this.

Only one slot on the back of the opti will allow the camshaft drive pin to fit without forcing it. I believe that would be the squared off one, IE the one with the most room.

Ok guys. Just got everything back together. Check all the wires everthing is in place & tight. I did not fill with coolant yet. I wanted to make sure the car would start.

It doesn't!

The car turns over & every so often it will pop like it wants to fire.

Any ideas?

The replacement is an OEM Opti.

You either have the plug wires crossed or you didn't get the pin seated in the correct slot. If the pin is correctly seated, the Opti will seat *entirely* against the timing cover before you install the bolts and bolt it into place. If you had to use bolts to get it to seat up (or used them for any other reason), it's likely mis-aligned.

The opti is not aligned correctly! I am sure, but don't ask me how I know The bitter voice of experience.

Okay, I'm an idiot!

I'm not going to say exactly what I did but it took me an hour and a half to disassemble and reassemble the front of the engine and now the car works.

I'm going to bed.

Thanks for the help!

Idiot?

Did you--
Put the coil wire into one of the vent openings?
Hook the TB hoses up to the vent fittings?
Snap a mounting ear off the new Opti?
Re-install the opti, but forgot to hook up the plug wires?
Let you neighbor help?
Run out of beer in the middle of the operation?

I am sure there are more options. Glad you got it fixed so easily!

Nah! There are those who don't try at all and there are those who do, and make a slight (or not so slight) error. But if you never try......

Congrats!

Thanks guys for not being to harsh. The problem was as "aminnich" said. I evidently forced the opti on. At first it didn't seem like it went on that hard but.....when I did it for the second time and it fell right into place, I knew that was my mistake.

Thanks for the help guys.

And yes, I did run out of beer the night before the project. This may have been my down fall, trying to complete this project with out it.

The cars allready been driven 200+ miles. All levels are good. I will say the car has never run so smooth.
