Excuse me for being "car illiterate" but I'm learning every day I get under my car or I read about something on the forum. Anyways yesterday I was changing my brake pads when I realized that when I went to go put in "Ball-joint grease" in the ball joint, it was leaking out the rubber thing that is supposed to fill up (I don't know what that it's called, can someone tell me?) but here is a pic. What do I need to replace this?
Thanks
The old grease doesn't evaporate,.... it's gotta go somewhere.
No, I guess the grease boot is torn, I go to put grease in it and it comes out the side. That pic shows the grease boot having no grease or very little grease in it. What do I need to fix this?
hi,as long as the top ball joint does not have any play in it ,give it grease untill it just starts to come out of the booth.to check for wear on the joint, place a jack under the bottom a-frame and place a bar under the tire and have a helper push up with the bar to see if there is any play on the ball joints.good luck greg84
I wouldn't worry about it if there is not excessive play in the joint, which is felt by handlind characteristics.
All ball joints will leak grease out the boot when completely filled. Just grease it on a regular schedule ( like we are all supposed to ) and you will be OK.
I had to change these boots on my Firebird for inspection. Put new ball joints in and "then" I found out you could just buy boot made from Polyurethane.:smash: If your Ball Joints are OK, you may want to check into buying just the boots. I think I saw them in summit or one of the Poly bushing suppliers.
