I was wondering if any one has a 86 and had put in headers. Could you tell me if you like the product, was it a pain to install, and where you got them, that would be great.
Thanks Guys
I'm the original owner of my '86 Corvette Convertible.
I've had TPiS Headers on this car since 1989.
They have held up very well.
Last month, I sent them to Jet Hot for Sterling coating.
This header should now be good for another 17 years.
My suggestion: if you plan on keeping your Vette for a number of years, make sure you buy a quality header.
I'm not saying you should buy TPiS headers...but do your homework, and listen to what the forum members say...and you'll be that much further ahead in making your selection.
As far as the install of any header, it is my opinion it all depends on your mechanical ability, and tool availablity. Some installs go easier then others.
I installed Hedman Elites. Their quality control sucks, But at half the price of comparable headers, they are hard to beat. They have a gasketless ball/socket collector and tie in easily to the factory "Y". If i had more money to burn, i would have gone with a company that takes pride in the workmanship of their products Hedman dosen't

If you can afford to do it right, you can't go wrong with Stainless Works, TPIS, Melrose or EM headers. Hooker's QC has always been inconsistent in regard to fitment and Dan's already given you a personal review for Hedmans. And he got their better grade of headers made for the C4s.
I went with TPIS only because they give really good spark plug clearance, and I needed it because I have aftermarket heads. I would have preferred to keep the stock stuff cause I like the stock look.
silver86 and I put in a set of tpi's in his car and it took 30 minutes at the most. It was alot quicker than we thought. Thats not including taking the old exhaust manifold off.
Hi. I have an 85 and have coated TPIS headers with great success. They have been on the car for three years and no problems. Easy to install and without any changes to the stock accessories as alternator mounting etc. The only thing I discovered was that the engine went into closed loop much later than before so I installed a heated O2 sensor and now it is fast in to the closed loop.
What I discovered was that I went from 1,2 liters pr 10km to just .9 liters pr 10 km in fuel consumption. I do not know why, but thats the fact. The measurements on the cluster and the reall measurement by filling the tank and measure the distance correlates quite good.
