Anyone know how to solve the problem of a distributor that will rock back and forth about 15-20 degrees? Its like it isnt tight but i know it is. I have heard about putting some washers between the dist and intake manifold? is this a good fix?

I have never heard of that, nor would I attempt to alter the allignment between the cam gear and distributer gear. Shimming the end play in the distributer is a good idea. Distributer shims can be purchased through summit etc. I would also inspect the gear for wear, bearings, and straightness of the shaft itself.

The distributor moves? What, exactly do you mean by "rock back and forth"? Does the distributor rotate? Jump up and down? I can't picture "rocking". How do you detect the "15-20 degrees", which one heck of a lot?
Thanks for the inputs guys... I was able to move the rotor back and forth by hand about the distance of one post on the distributor. From what the other posts said i need to shim the gear i guess. Are there instructions with the shim kit. I have replaced and removed many distributors but have never taken any apart or shimmed them. how do i measure for sure how much play i have?
No instructions with kit. Use feeler guages to determine the amount of gap that need to be removed, then use shims to remove that amount. A quite simple project that is cheap.
