Default Check engine light H63

The check engine light comes on solid every once in a while. (very rare) I have pulled codes, both times code 63 -Right oxygen sensor open. It usually goes away as fast as it came, and stays off. Is it as simple as following the wire that comes out of the sensor, looking for damage, or an unpluged connector? Anything I should be looking for?

Recently, I had both pre cats and main cat cut out, perhaps they got a little too close to the sensor wire. ? I haven't checked yet.

I wonder sometimes if I got rid of too much of the back pressure, she crackles and pops a little too much under mild throttle. Sounds like a roundy round dirt track exhaust. (stock mufflers) That is the next mod...

Backpressure doesn't have anything to do with the O2 sensor readings. As you stated I would check the wiring since you were in that area at one time. The wire could be touching the exhaust. You can also switch out the left and right O2 sensors and see if the sensor is bad but they are cheap enough that if *I* was to do something like this I would just get a new one. If you remove it look at it for silicon covering or carbon build up. But I would check the wiring first, at the PCM and the connection at the sensor.

If an O2 wire is touching the heat shield of the exhaust manifold, will this cause an H63 or H64? Thanks any input .

Your car only had 2 cats. The center piece was a resonator, might have stopped some of the pop/crackles.

Yes, the cats and the middle piece were all cut out and straight pipes welded in. Looking back, I should have left the middle, alone and looked at some chambered muffler eleminators. I think that would have had a nice sound. I am really lost as to which mufflers to buy....everyone is looking for that special sound, and I don't know if a c 4 can make it. I have heard some modded c5 exhausts that sound wonderful.
