I have been working on a problem with the brakes on my 1991 corvette for quite a while. The rotors, pads and calipers were all changed but braking was still hard.
This past weekend, I had the car inspected and magically the brakes are working fantastic. They are responsive and effortless to apply. Does anyone know what they might have done to improve the brake performance? It had to have been something under the hood since nothing was actually done to the brakes themselves. The actual mechanic was not available to ask this question.
The brake booster or related vacuum line would be my first check. The booster might hiss or cause your idle rpm to increase pressing on the brake at a standstill if defective. Boosters usually don't heal themselves. The ABS has had clogs, but usually one wheel gets no pressure and the car might pull under hard braking. Can jack the car up an check this. However if the system is working, finding something would be harder. You might also think about a read good fluid flush. It’s good routine maintenance anyway. Charge on

FWIW, I replaced a booster on one of my cars with an autozone unit. That one was also leaking, so I exchanged it for another. That one was leaking as well.
i went through that with the master cylinder from kragen so now its a new one. the booster is the new one from mid america. its metal not plastic. i wounder if it could be bad?
