I see that as usual Andy is up to lifes challenges!! Way to make a little lemonade already on monday!! One of my first lessons about C-4's was that weak batteries kill alternators quickly.

Top that off with a sound and vibration issue.

Something internal was rubbing in a very bad way. I don't think the diode bridge, on it's own, would do all of that.
In that case, you definitely did the wise thing to replace the entire unit. The diodes didn't cause this failure, and if there were ugly noises and vibrations also present, a pair of brushes weren't gonna solve it, either. Sounds like the windings on the armature delaminated and spun off, or some such. Hope the new one treats you better.

Be well,

Yea, I was thinking catastrophic internal failure. It's a reman... who knows was HASN'T been addressed. My hope is that the new unit is better.

I don't ordinarily do caffeine 'til lunchtime. Hate to shock the system too early in the day!

And my day ain't right 'til quittin' time...

Hell, I can work a full week... as long as it starts on Friday.

Where in Central MD are you? I used to live in Delaware.

Ah, yes... A one-day work week. Now there's a concept I could get along with. You running for President?

I live in Seabrook, which is a town nobody's heard of, about a mile from Goddard Space Flight Center. Next to a better-known town called Greenbelt.

Do you ever get back to the East Coast?

Be well,

SJW

oh, yea, Greenbelt. I kinda know where that is.

I used to live in the Dover area.

I do get back, but the flights are SO long, it's only a couple times a year. We plan on going back for Christmas this year.

I hear ya. Same reason I only get to the Left Coast once or twice a year.

If you're ever in the area, and would like a free beer or three, drop me a line. It'd be a pleasure to shake your hand and hoist a cool one with you.
