question about brake calipers
Anyways I know the C4 is notorious for alot of rattles and shakes. Since day 1 there is a distinct rattle (actually more like a light banging or clang) Yesterday I was cleaning my Rims and just touched the caliper and there is some play on it. It is tight up and down, but if you push in on it a bit at the middle, there is about 1/8"-3/16" play. It is only on the fronts. It's the middle section of the caliper. There is 1 pin but 2 holes. However upon closer inspection the other hole looks like if a pin went in it would hit the pad. When I push it a little bit it's the exact sound I hear when driving around. The brakes also seem to work fine. I don't know....am I over thinking the situation? Is there anyone else who has experienced this. What's the solution? I just don't want anything to happen while I'am driving. Maybe if anyone has pics of their brake area it would help me too. I never really looked at anyone else's.THANKS ALOT!!!!!!

one of the spring/retainers that is riveted to the (outboard) pad was missing (the retainer that goes through one of the 2 large holes on the outboard side of the caliper)
so the outboard pad was rattling around... this was on a 91' coupe.
It's late and I can't really remmber right now.. but I believe on end of the pads has a spring type clip on it.. maybe that is missing.. I would have to look at my car as I work on so many different vehicles I can't remmber for sure..
