it could go either way. It is combustable like gas. If you had a huge air leak, too much carb cleaner would bog the engine down(too much fuel, nit enough O2). A small air leak, and the RPM's should increase. In any event, you are trying to listen for any kind of RPM change. Short burst though around intake mateing surfaces and hose connections, and don't spray around electronics or spark generating stuff....

This method is much easier if you have a nice smooth idle....
