Default Help identify vac line and misc thing

My father asked me to post this up to see if any of you guys could clue him in on what this vaccum line that has broken I guess due to it's age.. it runs from what looks like the an opening from the firewall with the main harness I believe and connects to a T right behind the upper intake. Below is a pic of the T (has blue cover on it) and an arrow pointing to the other end of the broke line.. could it be to the ac system to possibly operate the vents or something like that?

Also does anybody know what exactly this black cylinder shaped thing is? im pretty sure it's not oem and possibly something to prevent noise from the ignition maybe? especially since the dope that had the car before us cut into every wire for his stero systems

as always any help would be much appreciated

The capped end should be connected to the shown tube , supplies vac to A/c controller under dash.

Yeah figured it was something lke that.. don't know if his ac works or not he's had on going issue with his blower motor.. he's replaced the relay and blower motor itself and it doesn't work.. only time it would work is when you would try the paper clip deal with the service port. Has both of us shaking our heads.

Is there any vacuum line diagrams for these cars anywhere that I could check out? possibly get an idea of how much line i'll need to order and what size.. I think I'll be redoing all his vac lines because this line broke on it's own due to age and I guess heat since it's all hard and brittle.. so all the lines are prob beat

From the pics, it looks like a small ignition coil. It could be an Inductor - Capacitor filter for the stereo system. It's kinda hard to make out in the pic... Wait, does that red wire hook to it??? If it does, then it is probably an ignition system filter...

Well I don't know what year you have there, but my '90 has two sensors behind the distributor that are cylinder in shape. One is oil pressure, and the other is something to do with fuel. I can't make out in your pic if thats what these are, but on mine they are on a metal line coming off the rear of the block just behind the intake manifold.

Also check the cruise control to see if it is still working. I was just going over my vacuum lines and remember a line going through the firewall for the cruise control. The manual had it attaching to a "T" on the back of the motor if memory serves me correct, its to late to go to the garage and get the book out.

The hard black plastic vacuum line going back through the firewall along with a bundle of wiring is, in fact, the feed for the ventilation system controller. Good luck finding the small hard plastic tubing - it's easier to just replace it all with regular rubber vacuum line. And, yes, all of that hard plastic tubing is now Extremely fragile after 20 or so years under the hood!

As for a vacuum diagram - get a copy of the Helms manual - it's the Bible...

Those two ends connect together. Apparently someone snapped it and just decided to plug it since the other piece runs along the inside of the engine wiring harness back there, and through the firewall leading behind the dash. Obviously it's not easy to replace. I beleive it goes to the AC unit.

Your profile says your vette is an '86. So that black cylinder is not factory. Someone added it. That's probably when those vaccum lines were snapped.
