Default calling all C4 vette owners

a quick question, I need new shocks...was first wondering who makes the best shocks for our year vettes?...Q1 shocks were mentioned....I am very interested in these...heard they are about the best......I have a 90' vette...had her since I was 19....only 18,000 miles....I have done mostly bolt on work to the car...borla exhaust with zr-1 tips, random tech cat, open air box, k and n filter...hypertech chip, thermostat, pulleys, a throttle body spacer plate...changed the sealed beam lights to hella e-code headlamps and h4 bulbs at 80/100 watts....and cosmetically changed a few things...put on a zr-1 rear end...looks amazing...high polished my rims and threw tints on the car...and just put on those wilwood brakes...my stereo crapped out, so I got a good deal on a new kenwood deck with direct attachments for my i-pod in my glove box...very clean install...anyway's...thinking about doing more work to the car...in addition to the shocks, there seems to be a small problem with the throw-out-bearing...wondering if there is anything I could do while getting this repaired...I am dying to get into the motor a lil'...my dream is to turn the car into a stroked 383...but, I would start small...new cam perhaps...or do you guys suggest doing work to the bottom of the motor?....hope your having a great day...Brian

I use the Qa 1s in my car. Great shock in my book.

Sounds like you have a nice car. I'm not sure if I would have done all those mods to a car that is so cherry but it's your car, enjoy it and do what makes you feel good. You said you have had the car since you were 19...how old are you now? Lets see some pictures of the car.
Sorry, I don't have the answer to your question but I'm sure someone does.

...just wanted to answer your question...I'm 33...will have pics of the car posted soon...I completely understand your point about the mods...I just wanted to change the car up a lil'....I had a 2001 audi S4 and just want to bring the vette up to more modern performance specs...such as horsepower, braking power, lighting...stuff like that....I love the look of the C4...just can't seem to part with the car... .....

I understand. I'll watch for the pics.
I'm a fan of Audi cars too. I'm thinking about picking up an A4 as a winter beater. The S4 is a great all around car.
14 years you have had the car and it only has 18000 miles? Drive the car man. Especially with all the work you have done to make it better to drive.

You have 18K miles and need shocks?...or are you just wanting to change them "because"?...or are you looking to improve performance at the track?

QA 1's are great shocks but very pricey unless you need them for a specific application...everyone I know that has them races their car regularly...

There seems to be three schools of thought on shocks...first are the folks who just cruise in their vettes and they use inexpensive shocks which are just fine for them...second are those who occassionaly race their cars and cruise the rest of the time...they go with OEM Bilstein's like the car came with...last are the group who push their cars real hard and very often...they go with adjustable shocks, Koni or QA 1's, so they can tune the suspension for the venue they are racing...

I'm a firm believer in using the parts that conform to how you use the car...overkill is just wasting money and underkill can flat out be dangerous...just my .02...

Check out the advanced search, there's lots of information on shocks already floating around on this site:

etc...

An advanced search for the word "shock*" in thread titles in the C4 tech section yields over 400 results. Sometimes linking to search results doesn't work, but here you go anyway:

It all depends on what your butt likes. My butt likes the Bilstein's in my 84.

The "best" shock for most people is the Bilstein.
If you have the ability to diagnose shock behavior, then an adjustable shock like the Koni or QA-1 would be an option.
If you go back through Neat's links, you'll get pretty much the same answers that you will get here.
First consideration: how do drive your C4? What do you do with itF??
