Default engine dies from idle

guys,
got an 86,
it starts up great and idles but as soon as ya press the gas pedal it dies,
if you quickly lift back off sometimes it picks back up,
you have to feather the pedal real gently to be able to pull away,
it's not as bad when warm,
can't get any info from WINaldl,
any ideas,
natt

I would start with checking the TPS voltage (.54v). Other than that have you cleaned the IAC and TB lately? Any codes?

There could be many things wrong. Here's an easy first test:

Disconnect the MAF sensor. You will get an SES light.

If it runs better in limp home mode, where the fueling is driven by the TPS then you have MAF issues.

While I was having MAF issues recently, my car would run much better in limp home mode.

Otherwise, check timing, fuel pressure, sensor data, etc.

This could be a fuel delivery problem. check the fuel preassure from the fuel pump and the fuel filter

if all of above fails try boosting idle up a little and see what happens or better yet go through whole iac tps idle procedure

The fuel pump relay being broken, would only make it longer to start the engine. Once oil pressure reaches 4 psi ,with some cranking, the oil pressure switch will run the pump as a back up. But glad to see you are getting somewhere.

Read this to test the TPS:

Make sure the two screws holding the TPS are not loose.
