I got the SLP thing today so I decided to put it on. I took off that rubber tunnel thing by unscrewing the clamp that hooks up to airbox. Then I started unscrewing the three big screws from the air cleaner lid, got the first two off, but the last one near the driver side wont come out. It will turn with some force using a wrench, but not go anywhere... I want to get this done before 8, so I can go to work, but I've been at this one screw for more than 1/2 an hour and it won't unscrew, but it will still turn. Can anyone please help me out? Am I doing this wrong? Thanks, Suke.
That screw goes into a clip on nut that attaches to the shroud. It sounds like that clip is turning. You may need an extra pair of hands to lay down and hold the clip from the bottom to be able to unscrew it. Hope this helps.
The bolt clip comes up through a slot that has a hole at one end. Since you have one nut off you can slide (with some effort) the remaining bolt and clip across the slot to the hole. Then you can remove the assembly with bolt and clip. Once removed it's easy to grip the bolt head to remove the nut. You will have to bend the clip ends to get it to hold again or replace it.
Thanks for the replies... I put everything back to take the car out, I'm going to try some of this stuff tomorrow. I am wondering if I should do a stock 1/4 mile and then do the 1/4 mile after the intake, i know there probably wont be a difference, but I'd like to see if it did anything, other than makeit look real nice under my hood.
You should be able to see it by laying down under the car and looking under the front bumper where the cooling air flows up for the radiator. Now that I think about it, its not very likely that clip on nut is turning (there would have to be a good bit of damage to the shroud for the nut to turn). Check and see if the handle is turning without turning the screw part that goes into the nut. I have a feeling its either that or the clip on nut was overtightened and stripped. In that case, you may be able to pull up on the **** of the screw and get some good threads to catch and start to screw out. I hope this makes sense. Good luck.
I'll check it out. I noticed that when forcifly turned by a wrench, the head will turn, and I THINK the entire screw might turn, I'm not so sure about that anymore. When I try to tighten it, it willbarely budge. Thanks,Suke.
