Can anybody tell me if there is an easy way to get the EMC on a 87' convertable . We are having a heck of a time to reach it and just can't seem to find all the bolts/screws that hold the panels in place. We have tried to use the manuals and not much help there. Thanks wro

...greetings, if it is the same as in my 88, it is a breeze. on the passenger side of the dash at the bottom. remove the bottom of the dash (it holds a floor light) being careful to disconnect the wires (to light). it is flexible and is held on by a few small screws/bolts. get on your back (so to speak) and slide your face under the dash. you'll see a "yellowish-ivory" plastic mounting bracket which holds the ecm. there are 2 metric bolts (can't remember size) that need to be removed. once this is done, the ecm will slide out. mine took more then a bit of tugging. there are wires/plugs on it so be careful. if you need a pict as to what is under there, i think i have a few that i can e-mail uou....good luck.
and it sounds like a big deal, but ain't--remove the pass seat and track as a unit from the car, lay on the floor with your legs in the luggage space, while you unhook the ecm connectors and push the wires aside that want to stop the ecm from dropping out...don't drop the ecm on your face and don't fall asleep on the floor...gettin the seat out will take 3 minutes after the first time learning curve.
keeerect, you don't HAVE to remove the seat....but i'm 6'-3 and don't like breaking stuff in the way when i can do the whole thing an easier way....i'm not lazy--just efficient (someday the wif may buy that)

.........and i'm 6'2 1/2 at 245lbs.......i didn't say it was comfortable but, it seems to be a lot of work just to acess an ecm for removal. a heater core i can see but, ecm, nahhh....
Gang thanks for the info It was a lot easier for my son(17) But he is is almost 6'. Layed the seat back as far as it would go already had the plastic lower trim piece off. Just took a long extension and socket just a couple of minutes. Now we are just waiting for some extra stuff then will be ready for the guys at PCMforLESS. Thanks for all the info WRO87
