OK, just got my vette inspected and found out that since my vette is a '95, the county in which I live does not test it for emissions. When removing the cats, what happens with the 02 sensors? Are they removed too? If so, will it throw a code? If no removal, then how is a code not thrown? If code is thrown, what do I do? Are there any other foreseeable issues with removing the cat converters? Also, does removing the cats make the sound louder? If so, is it noticablely louder or just more grumble? Thanks for any help on this decision.
Wow. Thanks for the info. They will stay put then. You are right, there is no reason to pollute for all of those reasons. Thank you for not letting me make a big mistake. 5hp and all of the noise...not worth it.
It really isn't worth it... there are some who will get all uppity about the govrn'ment messing with out rights, but when it comes down to OUR air, I think ones rights to cleaner air are more important than someone getting 5 or 10 more horsepower.
If you want to upgrade, the high flow units are really nice... and take little or no hp.
Depending on where you live, some headers and high flow cats would rock.
You west coast guys, geeesh! Next thing I'll probably hear from you is that it would be nice to have clean water to drink. What's wrong with Dasani? It tastes just fine to me. The water in my hometown of Portsmouth, OH puts a nice glow on them folks' teeth, ain't nothin wrong with that! Don't worry the cats are still staying put (based on sound/performance conclusion)
I was going to say that if you remove them, Bogus and I will come over and beat you upside the head with a 2x4. Get some high-flow cats like Catco or Random-Tech.

Is there that much of a difference in a high flow cat and the stocks on a '95? I was told by others that the stocks are very high flow as is. I don't see the cost justification of doing the high flows unless the original cats are clogged or need replacement due to wear.

We all know the rivers in Ohio are clean. Of course we also haven't forgotten about the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland actually catching fire and burning down the RR bridges over it. What was that, about 1978 or so? If fish could walk they'd all be out on I71 hitch hiking south.
I Have A 91 And Just Replaced The Cats With Strait Pipes. I Think It Sounds Great Now. Also Seams To Run And Smell Cleaner Now That I Have Opened Them Up. And Also No Codes.
garvette - the 91 exhaust is a pig compared to the 92+ exhaust.
Do us all a favour, put on some long tubes, bullet cats and an xpipe. you will get all the noise you want, and we will get the clean air we want. Win-win!
