I believe there was a previous post that said there was a spark plug wire, or coil wire, in the vicinity of the Opti-Spark harness that was arcing and caused the Opti-Spark signals to be faulty.
update. I haven't touched the car since I started this post. Last night I wanted to show some relatives the car. I started it up and it immediately died. Started it up again and had to keep it running.
Ordered the opti but it looks like I might not get it for a few weeks.
funny you mention that. While unplugging wires, I unplugged the IAC to get to the distributor harness and one of the 4 plastic rings around the male connections of the IAC snapped off. $23 for that little male plug. I am going to replace the IAC and male plug first thing.
odd. Started it up again this afternoon. She kept wanting to die on me.I plugged in datamaster and code 16 was gone but continued to die. Shut it off afewminutes and now its running fine, no code but still has the hesitation.
could it be that code 16 is intermittent? I am completely clueless on this.
....could it be that code 16 is intermittent?.....
If the low-res pulse was missing all the time, the engine would not run at all -- the only way the ECM knows the cam position, is through the low-res pulse.
Therefore, because it runs, even if badly, the low-res pulse has to be there some of the time.
